Serenity Valley

From the start, our approach attempted to integrate the housing program into the existing structure of the buildings but this very quickly proved impossible for technical reasons. However, the basements were preserved and served as a guideline for the design of the housing since we fit directly onto the existing foundations; which explains the volumes identical to those currently present.

This particular volumetry led us to treat the facades with a simple expression composed of 2 different registers. This is reflected in the choice of facade materials, but also in the structure.

We therefore find:

- On the ground floor and at +01 a register which forms the base of the buildings with a dark-colored brick covering. This base also corresponds to a structural logic since these 2 floors are composed entirely of concrete sails.

- On the upper floors, a lighter and lighter register, where the facades are clad in white brick. These floors correspond to a lighter construction system.

Most of the apartments benefit from a double orientation and are equipped with large terraces included in the volumes. From this volume taken from the existing buildings, we worked on the solids and the voids sometimes for a bay sometimes for a terrace generating a more or less important play of shadows.

The objective here is to arrive at an architectural expression the fairer for housing in a very heterogeneous urban context. Due to these choices of materials and implementation, we wish to give the accommodation a sober, contemporary and timeless expression, beyond any search for a fashionable effect.

A central alley encourages gentle mobility within the site but also well beyond by allowing two neighborhoods to be connected.  This road is a structuring element of the site giving access to all the housing areas and the office building.

Transversely to this main axis, we have created secondary connections which, via the ground floors of the housing, reach the metro accesses or collective places such as bicycle parking, so-called smart mailboxes and the community room. This now sealed site is thus opened up.

These different urban spaces will be developed to become meeting places and social life for its new inhabitants but also for the peripheral districts.
