C’est en mars 2011 qu’un incendie détruit totalement le clubhouse du Sart Tilman, une villa avec toit de chaume datant de 1939. Notre bureau est désigné, à l’issue d’un concours restreint, pour reconstruire un clubhouse destiné à accueillir les mille membres du club.
In March 2011, a fire completely destroyed the Sart Tilman clubhouse, a villa with a thatched roof dating from 1939. Our office was designated, at the end of a restricted competition, to rebuild a clubhouse intended to host the thousand members of the club.
In maart 2011 vernielt een brand volledig het clubhouse van de Royal Golf Club du Sart Tilman, een villa met een rieten dak dat van 1939 dateerde. Ons kantoor werd, na een beperkte wedstrijd, aangeduid om het clubhouse her op te bouwen dat bestemd is om de duizend leden van de golf club te ontvangen.
Nous décidons d’emblée d’inscrire, modestement, notre projet dans le respect de ce site absolument exceptionnel. Mais de le faire de façon très contemporaine, en opposition totale avec l’ancien bâtiment. Le résultat présente des formes simples, clairement lisibles et identifiables. Côté sud-ouest, un volume plein, en moellons de la région, regroupe les services et les circulations verticales. Par l’axe vitré de l’entrée, repérable sous un porche, on distingue aisément l’accès aux vestiaires et on devine le restaurant ouvert sur le paysage. Au nord-est, le bar-restaurant vitré ceint par une large terrasse est protégé du soleil et de la pluie par une toiture largement débordante. L’orientation de ces volumes pleins et vitrés, d’une superficie d’environ 1.500 m², suit un axe nord-est/sud-ouest, elle offre des vues panoramiques vers les greens nos 1, 9 et 18, tout en s’affranchissant de la proximité du parking. Un petit volume discret en toiture abrite un espace polyvalent et le bureau. Cet étage offre la possibilité d’aménager une vaste terrasse utilisable lors d’événements plus importants. Les sous-sols sont organisés en trois zones parfaitement distinctes : les vestiaires, les techniques et services et le logement du concierge. Les vestiaires, grâce à la combinaison de la nouvelle implantation et du relief existant, bénéficient d’une ventilation naturelle ainsi que d’un important apport de lumière diffusée par de larges et hautes baies vitrées.
At the outset, we humbly decided to set our project with respect for the exceptional site within which it was located. However, the aim was to do so in a very contemporary way, in strong opposition with the original building. The outcome shows simple shapes and it is clearly legible and recognizable. On the south-west side, a solid volume made of local rubble stones gathers the services and vertical circulations. Through the glassed axis of the entrance, identifiable under a porch, one can easily distinguish the access to the locker rooms and guess the restaurant, opened on the landscape. On the north-west side, the curtain walls of the restaurant-bar, which is also encircled by a wide terrace, are protected from the sun and the rain through a widely overflowing roof. The orientation of theses solid and glassed volumes, with a surface of approximately 1.500 m², follows a north-east/south-west axis and offers panoramic views towards the greens n°1, 9 and 18, while avoiding the proximity of the car park. A small discrete volume on the roof hosts a multipurpose space and the office. This floor allows the realization of a wide terrace, which can be used to host important events. The underground levels are articulated in three perfectly distinct areas: the locker rooms, the technical and service rooms, and the caretaker apartment. Thanks to the combination between the new establishment and the existing relief, the locker rooms benefit from natural ventilation as well as an important intake of light, diffused into the space by wide and high glass windows.
Wij nemen ons onmiddellijk voor om ons project op bescheiden wijze en met de nodige eerbied in te passen in de volstrekt uitzonderlijke site, maar dit ook te doen op een zeer hedendaagse manier in totale tegenstelling met het oude gebouw. Het resultaat stelt eenvoudige vormen voor die duidelijk leesbaar en herkenbaar zijn. Aan de zuid-westelijke zijde worden in een gesloten volume, dat opgetrokken is met breuksteen uit de streek, de dienstlokalen en de verticale circulatieruimtes ondergebracht. Doorheen de beglaasde as van de inkom, herkenbaar onder zijn portaal, kan gemakkelijk de toegang tot de vestiaires onderscheiden worden en vermoedt men de aanwezigheid van het restaurant dat een open uitzicht heeft op het landschap. Aan de noord-oostelijke zijde bevindt zich de beglaasde bar/restaurant, omringd met een breed terras en beschermd tegen zon en regen door een ruim overstekend dak. De oriëntatie van deze gesloten en beglaasde volumes, met een oppervlakte van ongeveer 1.500 m², volgt een noord-oost/zuid-west as met panoramische zichten naar de greens nrs. 1, 9 en 18 en onttrekt zich aan de nabijheid van de autoparkeerzone. Een klein discreet volume in het dak bevat een polyvalente ruimte en een bureau. Deze verdieping biedt de mogelijkheid om een uitgestrekt terras in te richten dat kan gebruikt worden bij grotere evenementen. De ondergrondse verdiepingen zijn in drie volstrekt onderscheiden zones ingedeeld : de vestiaires, de technische en dienstlokalen en de conciërgewoning. De vestiaires beschikken over een natuurlijke verluchting dankzij de combinatie van de nieuwe inplanting en het bestaande reliëf en hiermee ook van een ruime lichtinval doorheen de brede en hoge raamopeningen.
