En mai 2024, nous avons assisté avec joie à l'inauguration des nouveaux bureaux de l’agence top secret communication, avenue Winston Churchill 90 à Uccle.
Un sublime projet de restauration mêlant l'héritage d'une maison d'époque partiellement classée et le contemporain.
De style Art Nouveau, la façade à rue et la toiture de la « Maison 't Bieken », dessinée par l’Architecte Ernest Delune, sont classés depuis le 13 juillet 2006 comme monuments en raison de leurs intérêts historique et esthétique.
Ce bâtiment possède deux travées de largeur différente et trois niveaux élevés en pierre de France. Il est représentatif de l'Art Nouveau géométrique teinté d'éclectisme à Bruxelles.
La travée de gauche se distingue au premier étage par la présence d'un bow-window sur l'allège duquel se trouve une abeille sculptée dans la pierre et surmontant le nom donné à cette maison : 'T Bieken.
La signature de l'architecte apparaît à gauche de la baie du rez-de-chaussée. Cette baie en retrait est précédée de deux colonnes supportant le bow-window de l’étage.
Sur la travée de droite, on remarque à l'allège de la baie de chaque étage, une sculpture figurant une paire d'ailes posée au-dessus d'un cercle traversé par trois lignes verticales.
Sous la corniche, l'entablement est orné d'un bas-relief formant des quadrilatères évoquant la ruche et ses alvéoles.
«`t Bieken est certainement l'une des plus belles réalisations d'Ernest Delune (1859-1947). Cette maison d'allure classique est rehaussée d'éléments Art Nouveau résolument graphiques : motifs à carreaux dans la frise, triglyphes, métopes incluant des représentations d'abeille, loggia et bow-window aux lignes strictes surmontés d'un balcon finement réalisé.
L'ensemble forme un très bel exemple de pureté des lignes dans l'architecture telle qu'elle était préconisée par l'École viennoise au cours de la première décennie du XXesiècle. L'année précise de construction de 't Bieken n'est pas connue mais, par ses principes, cette habitation rejoint cette sobriété dans les formes à tendance fortement géométrique telle qu'elle était pratiquée par Paul Hamesse, Jean-Baptiste Dewin et Léon Sneyers, par exemple.
Dans les premières années du siècle passé, cette « deuxième génération » des architectes Art Nouveau avaient constaté une crise dans l'Art nouveau bruxellois : la penséerévolutionnaire des pionniers comme Victor Horta avait cédé la place à une nouvelle tradition dans laquelle il était fait usage de manière routinière des éléments de style, ce qui leur ôtait leur essence même. Leur solution consista en une architecture disciplinée qui se développait à cette époque à Vienne, tout en restant fidèle aux principes de base de l'Art Nouveau bruxellois. En termes d’affectation, le rez-de-chaussée et le 1er étage accueillent du bureau, tandis que les 2ème et 3ème étages sont dédiés au logement.
Nos interventions ont porté essentiellement sur les éléments suivants :
Modifications extérieures :
- Rénovation de la façade avant classée : restauration des pierres, restauration et - pour les éléments qui ne sont pas d’ époque - la reproduction à l’origine des menuiseries ; la remise en état et en peinture des ferronneries existantes ; la restitution de la grille de clôture disparue de la zone de recul.
- Rénovation de la toiture classée : Cette rénovation comprend principalement les réparations éventuelles des ardoises existantes des versants avant et arrière ; la dépose de l’EPDM sur la partie plate et la restitution de la toiture en zinc à joints debout disparue ; la restauration des boiseries des corniches, et la réfection du recouvrement du chéneau en feuilles de zinc ; l’isolation par l’intérieur ; la pose de panneaux photovoltaïques ; et le remplacement des fenêtres de toit existantes afin d’atteindre le niveau d’éclairement requis dans le RRU.
- Modifications en façade arrière : Ces modifications concernent essentiellement la démolition de l’annexe peu qualitative au niveau du sous-sol semi-enterré afin d’améliorer l’accès vers le jardin et d’augmenter la luminosité.
Modifications intérieures :
- Déplacement de l’escalier entre le rez et le sous-sol et la création d’une nouvelle trémie
- Démolition de certaines parties de maçonnerie portante ou non.
Notre cellule ARCHi2OOO design a par ailleurs orchestré et suivi toute l'exécution des parachèvements intérieurs.
Enfin, le jardin arrière est aménagé pour créer une ambiance végétale foisonnante et paisible en intérieur d’îlot.

In Art Nouveau style, the street facade and the roof of the “Maison 't Bieken”, designed by architect Ernest Delune, classified as monuments since July 13, 2006 for their historical and aesthetic interests.
This building has two bays of different widths and three high levels in French stone. It is representative of the geometric Art Nouveau with a touch of eclecticism in Brussels.
The left bay is distinguished on the first floor by the presence of a bay window on the parapet of which there is a carved stone bee, above which is the name given to this house: 'T Bieken.
To the left of the window on the ground floor is the architect's signature. This recessed bay is preceded by two columns that support the bay window of the floor.
On the right bay, in the parapet of the bay of each floor, we see a sculpture representing a pair of wings placed above a circle crossed by three vertical lines.
Below the cornice, the entablature is decorated with a bas-relief that forms quadrilaterals and is reminiscent of the basket and its cells.
"`t Bieken is certainly one of the most beautiful creations by Ernest Delune (1859-1947). In terms of use, the ground floor and the 1st floor accommodate offices, while the 2nd and 3rd floors are intended for homes.
Our interventions mainly focused on the following elements:
Adjustments to the exterior:
- Renovation of the listed front facade : restoration of the stones, restoration and - for elements that do not date - the original reproduction of the joinery; refurbishing and painting existing ironwork; the restitution of the missing fencing of the area behind it.
- Renovation of the listed roof : This renovation mainly includes possible repairs to the existing slates on the front and rear slopes; removing EPDM on the flat part and repairing the missing standing seam zinc roof; the restoration of the cornice woodwork and the repair of the gutter cladding with zinc plates; interior insulation; installation of photovoltaic panels; and replacing the existing skylights to achieve the required lighting levels in the RRU.
- Adjustments to the rear facade : These adjustments mainly concern the demolition of the low-grade outbuilding near the half-buried cellar. to improve access to the garden and increase light.
Adjustments to the interior:
- Moving the stairs between the ground floor and the basement and creating a new cistern;
- Demolition of certain parts of the masonry, whether or not load-bearing.
Our ARCHi2OOO design cell also orchestrated and monitored the entire implementation of the interior finishes.
Finally, the backyard has been landscaped to create a lush and peaceful island plant atmosphere:

Een subliem restauratieproject dat het erfgoed van een gedeeltelijk geklasseerd historisch huis combineert met het hedendaagse.
In Art Nouveau-stijl zijn de straatgevel en het dak van het “Maison 't Bieken”, ontworpen door architect Ernest Delune, sinds 13 juli 2006 geklasseerd als monumenten vanwege hun historische en esthetische belangen.
Dit gebouw heeft twee traveeën van verschillende breedte en drie hoge niveaus in Franse steen. Het is representatief voor de geometrische art nouveau met een vleugje eclecticisme in Brussel.
De linker travee onderscheidt zich op de eerste verdieping door de aanwezigheid van een erker op de borstwering waarvan een in steen gebeeldhouwde bij staat, met daarboven de naam die aan dit huis is gegeven: 'T Bieken.
Links van het raam op de begane grond staat de handtekening van de architect. Deze verzonken travee wordt voorafgegaan door twee kolommen die het erkerraam van de vloer ondersteunen.
Op de rechter travee zien we in de borstwering van de travee van elke verdieping een sculptuur die een paar vleugels voorstelt die boven een cirkel zijn geplaatst, doorkruist door drie verticale lijnen.
Onder de kroonlijst is het hoofdgestel versierd met een bas-reliëf dat vierhoeken vormt en doet denken aan de korf en zijn cellen.`
"`t Bieken is zeker een van de mooiste creaties van Ernest Delune (1859-1947). Dit klassiek ogende huis is verrijkt met resoluut grafische Art Nouveau-elementen: ruitpatronen in de fries, trigliefen, metopen inclusief afbeeldingen van bijen, loggia en erker met strakke lijnen met daarbovenop een fijn bewerkt balkon.
Het geheel vormt een zeer mooi voorbeeld van zuiverheid van lijnen in de architectuur, zoals aanbevolen door de Weense School in het eerste decennium van de 20e eeuw. Het precieze bouwjaar van 't Bieken is niet bekend, maar door zijn principes voegt deze woning deze soberheid samen in vormen met een sterk geometrische tendens zoals die bijvoorbeeld in de praktijk werd gebracht door Paul Hamesse, Jean-Baptiste Dewin en Léon Sneyers.
In de eerste jaren van de vorige eeuw had deze ‘tweede generatie’ Art Nouveau-architecten een crisis in de Brusselse Art Nouveau opgemerkt: het revolutionaire denken van pioniers als Victor Horta had plaatsgemaakt voor een nieuwe traditie waarin gebruik werd gemaakt van routinematige manieren van stijlelementen, die hun essentie wegnamen. Qua gebruik herbergen de begane grond en de 1e verdieping kantoren, terwijl de 2e en 3e verdieping bestemd zijn voor woningen.
Onze interventies concentreerden zich vooral op de volgende elementen:
Aanpassingen aan het exterieur:
- Renovatie van de geklasseerde voorgevel : restauratie van de stenen, restauratie en - voor elementen die niet dateren - de originele reproductie van het schrijnwerk; opknappen en schilderen van bestaand ijzerwerk; de restitutie van het ontbrekende hekwerk van het achterliggende gebied.
- Renovatie van het geklasseerde dak : Deze renovatie omvat voornamelijk mogelijke reparaties aan de bestaande leien op de voor- en achterhellingen; het verwijderen van EPDM op het vlakke deel en het herstellen van het ontbrekende zinken dak met staande naad; het herstel van het kroonlijsthoutwerk en het repareren van de gootbekleding met zinken platen; binnenisolatie; installatie van fotovoltaïsche panelen; en het vervangen van de bestaande dakramen om het vereiste verlichtingsniveau in de RRU te bereiken.
- Aanpassingen aan de achtergevel : Deze aanpassingen betreffen voornamelijk de sloop van het laagwaardige bijgebouw ter hoogte van de half ingegraven kelder in. om de toegang tot de tuin te verbeteren en de lichtinval te vergroten.
Aanpassingen aan het interieur:
- Verplaatsen van de trap tussen de begane grond en de kelder en het creëren van een nieuwe stortbak
- Slopen van bepaalde delen van het metselwerk, al dan niet dragend.
Onze cel ARCHi2OOO design orkestreerde en monitorde ook de volledige uitvoering van de interieurafwerkingen.
